Project 2 First Draft

Updated: Aug 2, 2019

I am gravitating towards the group of people identifying with the social justice Living Learning Community. I will move in with them in the fall semester to start our pursuit of fighting for our own social justice causes. For this social justice Living Learning Community we will go on retreats on the spring and fall and we will be our own text as we all are tools to communicating are own messages of justice that we have created through our own lens. My community that I’ll be focusing on is the black population inside the social justice community with a narrow view of social justice from there point of view.

Texts that we will have are classes that will allow a message of leadership of social justice to be taught to us by a teacher. We will be informed of how to use the passion we possess for change in the fall of 2019. In 2020 in the second semester we will take a class that is Leadership through Inter group Dialogue. Social Responsibility Rhetorically Speaking is a class that I have a choice to take during the fall or spring and this text will enable us in being better speakers when advocating for a group or cause.

The text that I will use within my Living Learning Community will be people of color. Me being a person of color, I will be looking for someone who shares the hardships of poverty, racism, and disrespect that comes with being a person of color. I want to study this population inside of this community because I feel like a person of color struggling to fight for change to the society that disables them accurately represents this community. I will study through interviews with some of the community's black members to discover how these members are shaped by this community and their outside experiences.

This community only allows for thirty members to join to be a part of this organization after writing a detailed essay about their reasoning for wanting to be in this Living Learning Community and then conducting an over the phone interview. After that process you can either be accepted or denied entry based on the depth and passion shown in wanting to take part in social justice. This group is meant to be supportive and inclusive despite the many different viewpoints that happen to inhabit the group. This group is meant to resemble a group of progressive thinkers with a passion for justice in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, class, religion, ability, citizenship, political ideology, and other identities. Discussion and acceptance of other people’s opinions is expected in this organization and is necessary to succeed within this group in the long run.

In this Living Learning Community, we will be challenged in our understanding in different social issues, we will be forced to expand our minds through classes and shared conversations between members. We will also be using the information we learn from classes and between discussion and hangouts with each other to create projects as the year continues. In this group I will learn how to further my understanding in other people's hardships, I can learn through classes and my peers the varying experiences we face. Through the text of people, classes, and activities promoting bonding, I can deeper bury myself into this Living Learning Community that can help me with my goal of becoming an advocate for all those who are not empowered.

The goal of this community is to really support change and this is expressed with the close living quarters and with the regular events planned that the kids within the community have to attend. This groups widespread progressive beliefs brought by the new young students fuel this group advocacy that I was looking for in a community. For my paper I can find my text of black students to give me a more detailed understanding of how kids like me form this strong emboldened community.

I will work to talk to at least one or two past or current members of the Living Learning Community who are black and have information on how black people are enabled as texts within this group. They will also inform me through an interview how black people create and amplify a message within this group allowing them to become a text. I will learn how the activeness of its black members reflects the values in the social justice Living Learning Community as well when I interview them. And as I join, I will learn from this group of young passionate college students.
